HYPERFOCAL CANYON
Grand Canyon NP, Arizona, October 2023
The grandest canyon of all, Grand Canyon. This was a pilgrimage long waiting to be done. So when I got my new 28-70mm lens, this seemed the right moment to go there. The lens did not disappoint. Though I do wish, I had a polarizing filter with me that could have cut out some of the harsh light and got a more pleasing sky. I tried to test around with the concept of Hyperfocal distance in these images. The Hyperfocal distance for a given lens at a given aperture is the closest distance to focus, in order to get the entire image behind that distance in focus too. These images are not cropped and are at full size. The details when blown up are amazing making it possible to make very large prints. The few humans visible in these photos gives a sense of scale and how big the canyon is! I saw some cool birds, squirrels and elk too, but couldn’t switch fast enough to my telephoto lens to capture them
